The "Marie-Curie Orsay Early Stage Training Site on Emergent Phenomena in Condensed
Matter Physics" offers the possibility to early stage researchers to apply for Ph. D. or shorter
periods at the Laboratoire
de Physique des Solides at Orsay. Several Marie-Curie fellowships are
currently available.
This European program is designed for early stage researchers who are qualified to
undertake doctoral studies, and are not nationals or residents of
France. It provides generous living, travel and mobility allowances.
The
applicants should apply directly to a research group of the laboratory,
as listed here.
The Laboratoire de physique des solides at Orsay is the largest institute devoted
to condensed matter physics in France. The laboratory is a part of the Université Paris Sud
and is also associated with the CNRS. It has, over nearly 45 years, pioneered
important advancements in this field. It hosts permanently around 200
people, who work on state of the art concepts. Its scientific tradition enables
numerous high level international collaborations and an outstanding
experience in high quality research training. The laboratory
brings together under one roof all the facilities and know-how needed
to create, characterize
and study new materials. The trainees will find in the laboratory a
broad range of experimental techniques such as microscopy,
spectroscopy, scattering experiments... together with an
important group of theoreticians.
The research project will be devoted to
emergent physical phenomena in Condensed Matter Physics, which appear
as important both on fundamental research aspects and for technological
applications. Particular emphasis will be put on the new states of
matter in correlated electron systems, new physical phenomena at the
nanoscale, and important studies of soft and biological matter. These fields encompass an extraordinarily rich variety
of phenomena, but display an underlying unity based on common concepts,
shared techniques, facilities and apparatus and on a common basic
education given by our graduate school.
This
programme is supported by the Human Resources and Mobility (HRM)
activity of the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Union, which and is largely based
on the financing of training and mobility activities for researchers.
These activities, known as the Marie
Curie Actions, are aimed at the development and transfer of
research competencies, the consolidation and widening of researchers'
career prospects, and the promotion of excellence in European research.
The detailed principles of Marie Curie Fellowships for Early Stage
Training are explained in the following Handbook ( . pdf
