Autumn school:

Sliding dynamics: the physical and mechanical viewpoints on Friction

School on modern aspects of friction

Valpré (France) : 19-24 November 2006

Despite major technological impact, the physical basis of friction is not well understood.

The aim of this school is to cover the latest experimental and theoretical advances in the various domains -both mechanics and physics- of friction and to provide a more unified picture of the field.

With a comprehensive set of lectures and a wide thematic outline, along with time for discussions and poster contributions from the attendees, this school on the dynamics of confined systems aims at:

  • bringing together the concepts and ideas from different communities;
  • favouring the emergence of a common culture between materials science, physics and mechanical engineering;
  • fostering synergies between theories, modelling and experiments;
  • encouraging transverse innovative approaches in the field of friction.
