SUMMARY:Cyril ELOUARD: Quantum measurement as a thermodynamic process
DESCRIPTION:\nCyril ELOUARD, Université de Lorraine, Nancy\n\n\n\nLe résumé :\n\n\n\nQuantum measurement is one of the most intriguing phenomena of quantum mechanics. The postulates of quantum mechanics predict a random dynamics of the measured system, such that quantum measurement is both a form of noise, but also a versatile tool for quantum control.\n\n\n\nNotably, the measurement-induced dynamics can exhibit variations of both the energy and entropy of the system. It is therefore legitimate to consider it as a thermodynamic transformation.  \n\n\n\nI will give an overview of the conclusions and the research line which stem from this approach. I will first give some context regarding the field of quantum thermodynamics, which generalizes concepts from thermodynamics to quantum open systems, inspired by the framework of stochastic thermodynamics.\n\n\n\nThen, I will give an overview of the behavior of the entropy and energy under quantum measurements, and some applications such as a measurement powered engine.\n\n\n\nFinally, I will present lessons learnt from modeling the quantum measuring apparatus, in order to relate these entropy and energy transfers to the resource needed to perform the measurement.\n\n\n\nContact: andrej.meszaros@universite-paris-saclay.fr ( mailto:andrej.meszaros@universite-paris-saclay.fr )\n
