SUMMARY:Hanno Weitering : Resonant dielectric amplification of superconductivity at the FeSe/SrTiO3 interface
DESCRIPTION:\nEpitaxial monolayers of FeSe grown on SrTiO₃ (STO) and related polar substrates exhibit superconducting transition temperatures of 65–70 K, far exceeding the ~8 K value of bulk FeSe. Although coupling between FeSe electrons and interfacial Fuchs–Kliewer (FK) phonons is widely believed to contribute to this enhancement, the apparent universality of high-T_c superconductivity across multiple polar interfaces remains poorly understood. Here, we identify the lower-energy FK mode near 59 meV — corresponding to the surface manifestation of the bulk longitudinal optical resonance of STO — as a conduit through which the substrate dielectric response enhances pairing in the FeSe layer. Within a phenomenological electrodynamic framework based on Migdal-Eliashberg scaling, we parametrize the Eliashberg function using the plasmonic response of the dielectric environment. Incorporating the measured dielectric response of STO near its longitudinal dielectric zero selectively amplifies the pairing interaction near this resonance. We refer to this effect as resonant anti-shielding (RAS), which can raise the theoretical upper bound of T_c into the experimentally observed range. Because this mechanism arises from coupling to longitudinal dielectric resonances in polar substrates, it is not specific to STO. These results suggest that dielectric environments can act as electrodynamic amplifiers of pairing interactions, establishing dielectric engineering as a viable route toward enhanced superconductivity in engineered heterostructures.\n
