Fermi surface and magnetic order in heavy rare-earth metals : a new type of the magnetic phase transition.

A wide variety of complex magnetic structures in heavy rare earth metals is known to be tied with the fine features of their Fermi surfaces. Namely, the change in the Fermi surface topology with temperature or with external pressure causes the change in the magnetic ordering type. This phenomenon is demonstrated in the set of the experiments. The recently obtained ab initio magnetic phase diagram (D. Hughes, M. Dane, A. Ernst at al, NATURE 446, 650 (2007)) agrees nicely with our results. The new "2 1/2 type" magnetic phase transition is proposed.
