Spin ladders in a magnetic field : a laboratory to probe Luttinger-liquid physics - Hadrien Mayaffre

A system of spins coupled in a ladder geometry can be described as a one-dimensional ensemble of fermions. A magnetic field then acts as a chemical potential, its value adjusting the filling from an empty band to a filled band. Such a system can be described as a Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid, the universal model for interacting particles in one dimension.

In this presentation, we will show, through the NMR study of two model compounds, how it is possible to quantitatively test and validate this model in two different regimes (repulsive and attractive interactions)
