Elastocapillarity : Wetting of Soft Materials - Matthieu Roché

Matière et Systèmes Complexes, Université Paris Diderot - CNRS

Invitant : F. Boulogne

The study of wetting is topic with a long history, dating back to the beginning of the 19th century. Students in Soft Matter have likely encountered Young-Dupré’s law and the Neumann construct in their curriculum as basic manifestations of capillarity. In this talk, I will discuss how soft materials such as elastomers fit in these classical frameworks. I will give an overview of the extensions that have been proposed over time, and discuss them in the light of experiments. I will then describe ongoing work in our group that hopefully clarify some of the key issues in the field.
