Plasmon-induced hot electrons in photocatalysis : from fundamental aspects to complex applications - Miguel Comesana-Hermo

In the last years, the use of plasmonic materials as photosensitizers in photocatalytic processes has gained relevance. In this manner, their ability to harvest hot electrons upon plasmon excitation is a powerful means to increase the catalytic activity of large bandgap semiconductors into a broader range of the electromagnetic spectrum. In this seminar, we will discuss current trends and limitations of hot electron injection in metal-semiconductor hybrids. Moreover, we will introduce the implementation of this interaction in a biological context aiming at the formation of new materials with bio-orthogonal capabilities.
