      Topologically protected Landau level in the vortex lattice of a Weyl superconductor

      Résumé : The question whether the mixed phase of a gapless superconductor can support a Landau level is a celebrated problem in the context of d-wave superconductivity, with a negative answer : The scattering of the subgap excitations (massless Dirac fermions) by the vortex lattice obscures the Landau level quantization. We have found that the same question has a positive answer for a Weyl superconductor : The chirality of the Weyl fermions protects the zeroth Landau level by means of a topological index theorem. As a result, the heat conductance parallel to the magnetic field through an area enclosing N vortices is quantized at N/2 times the thermal conductance quantum.

      Conduction and localization in two-dimensional disordered systems

      Résumé : We review the properties of disordered systems with enough disorder to have all states localized. In this case, conduction is by variable-range hopping and interactions between carriers are generally very important, affecting the exponent in the variable-range hopping law. Two-dimensional systems are special : the localization length varies exponentially with disorder and interactions can be very long-range, depending logarithmically on distance.
      We present experimental results on finite thickness samples which show an exponential dependence of the localization length with thickness and numerical simulations that fit these results fairly well. Our results can be relevant in the insulating side of the SIT and on delocalization transitions in general.
