This system is a layered structure held by van der Waals forces and comprised of atomically thin lithium (Li) layer\, sandwiched between the two boron nitride (BN) layers. The BN layers ensure a wide band gap\, and the Li plane gives a parabolic half-filled band placed inside the band gap. I derive the total dielectric function of this insulator-metal-insulator system within the multicomponent RPA theory. The intra band conductivity tensor is derived using the Landau transport equations. The relaxation of electrons on phonons is described by a memory function\, which is derived using the Heisenberg equation. The memory function changes the bare plasmon dispersion of two-dimensional conductors and strongly influences the plasmon lifetime as well as the plasmon propagation. The same formalism can be applied to graphene. I will compare the results to the lithium-intercalated BN. I will present a mechanism for the generation of pure superconducting spin-currents carried by equal-spin triplet Cooper pairs in a superconductor (S) sandwiched between a ferromagnet (F) and a normal metal (Nso) with intrinsic spin-orbit coupling [2]. In the presence of Fermi-liquid interactions\, the superconducting proximity effect can induce non-locally a ferromagnetic exchange field in the Nso layer which disappears above the superconducting transition temperature of the structure. The induced Fermi-liquid exchange field leads to a pure spin supercurrent associated with the generation of long-range spin-triplet superconducting correlations in the F/S/Nso trilayer. I will show that the magnitude of the spin supercurrent depends critically on the superconducting proximity effect and on the magnitude of the relevant Landau Fermi-liquid interaction parameter. Our results provide a mechanism for the generation of equal-spin Cooper pairs that is compatible with recent experimental results [3]. Theoretical challenges however still remain in particular with respect to the finite size nature of materials\, since most theories assume infinite periodicity in space. This is of particular relevance in materials close to a topological phase transition : ZrTe5\, for example\, was calculated to be close to the border between strong and weak topological insulating states [1]. But experimentally\, whether it is a topological insulator or a Dirac semimetal is still hotly debated [2]. Here we study thickness-tuned transitions between trivial\, and weak and strong topological insulating states. We calculate the evolution of the spectrum\, surface gap\, and 2D topological number as a function of thickness. I will start by considering driven-dissipative open quantum systems obeying to a Lindblad master equation. I will first discuss the general features of the so-called dissipative phase transitions of first and second order [1]. Then\, I will derive the exact steady-state solution for a one- and two-photon driven-dissipative nonlinear resonator [2\,3]\, obtained via the complex-P representation of the system density matrix. Such a system serves as a paradigmatic example for the emergence of criticalities in the thermodynamic limit of large photonic population of the resonator. In the second part of the talk\, I will switch to closed systems. I will show how the dc linear magnetotransport of a two-dimensional electron gas is modified by a passive electromagnetic cavity in which no photons are injected or created [4]. The fundamental role of virtual polaritonic excitations will be pointed out by using the Kubo formula for the system conductivity. Understanding and simulating them is thus essential to our ability to design novel devices using 2D materials. In parallel to the development of experimental techniques\, theoretical models and ab initio simulations also evolve to treat this new class of materials. I will discuss the development of several computational and analytical approaches to describe 2D materials\, either isolated or doped by field effects. In particular\, these approaches were applied to model : i) electron-phonon coupling and electronic transport in graphene\, ii) the behaviour of polar-optical phonons in 2D (Fröhlich interaction and LO-TO splitting)\, and iii) the doping dependency of the Raman spectrum of transition metal dichalcogenides. These approaches are also the main tools in an effort to design and discover novel 2D materials using high-throughput ab initio calculations. By allowing the creation of entangled quantum states of light and collective matter excitations\, cavity quantum electrodynamics offers a fascinating platform in this context. In this talk I will discuss how a cooperative effect between long-range correlations induced by the light-matter interaction and strong electron interactions intrinsic to quantum materials can lead to the stabilization of coherent phases of light and matter. By studying a simple model of interacting electrons coupled to a single mode cavity field I will show that a phase characterized by the simultaneous condensation of excitons and coherent states in the cavity field. The formation of coherent states in the cavity field is usually called photon superradiance. I will characterize this "superradiant excitonic insulator" (SXI) phase and discuss probes for the ordered phase by coupling with external fields as well as possible realizations in real materials. They are known to be powerful building blocks of topological quantum computers. We identify a novel physical system in which parafermions generically develop. It is based on a quantum constriction formed by the helical edge states of a quantum spin Hall insulator in vicinity to an ordinary s-wave superconductor. One of the many phases in this diagram is the pseudogap phase\, characterized by a partial drop in the density of states and whose nature remains unclear to date. Understanding the origin of the pseudogap in cuprate superconductors is essential to elucidate the cause of high critical temperatures in these materials. A way to investigate this peculiar state is to look for signatures of a phase transition in doping\, at very low temperatures (in the T → 0 limit). In this presentation\, we will show how transport measurements can be used to probe the critical doping p* where the pseudogap phase ends at T = 0. I will reveal some recent information provided by these measurements during my PhD. One conceptually interesting family of lattice models that describes this physics is the family of the hyperhoneycomb lattices\, which form 3D structures of crossed 1D chains where all sites have the same planar trigonal connectivity of graphene. In this talk\, I will show that Coulomb interactions could drive the system to show an anomalous quantum Hall effect (AQHE) [2]\, with current loops that produce zero net flux in the 3D unit cell. I will show that in the AQH state\, because of lack of inversion symmetry\, the Haldane mass has nodes along the nodal line\, giving rise to pairs of Weyl points connected by Fermi arcs. However\, being free of the stringent Lorentz symmetry\, low-energy excitations in condensed matter systems significantly extend the fermion zoo\, known from the Standard model. In the first part of my talk\, I focus on so-called Kane fermions [1]\, known for zinc-blend crystals. I will show that bulk crystals hosting Kane fermions with negative-rest mass have multiple branches of topological surface states [2]\, in contrast to conventional topological insulators. Then\, I briefly present our experimental results on temperature-driven topological phase transition and observation of massless Dirac fermions in HgTe quantum well (QW) [3\,4]. Finally\, I show that tunnel-coupling between two HgTe QWs yields very reach phase diagram of the system [5]. In the second part of my talk I will present multi-layer 2D system based on III-V semiconductors\, which offers a flexible platform for realization of high-temperature Quantum Spin Hall Insulator (QSHI)\, massless Dirac fermions and analog of bilayer graphene analog [6]. The first experimental results from our group will be shown as well [7\,8]. The topological superconductors are characterized by a finite gap in the energy spectrum\, coexisting with a nontrivial degeneracy of the ground state\, which causes the periodicity in the induced charge to be e and not 2e. This difference in the states and spectra from both conventional superconductors and normal metals results in a different underlying physics of the disappearance of Coulomb blockade oscillations at perfect transmission. We show that it is related to the physics of adiabatic transitions between a discrete state and a continuum of itinerant states. We formulate a quantitative theory valid for the crossover from a regime where the amplitude of Coulomb blockade oscillations is proportional to the reflection amplitude\, to a regime where the physics is similar to a conventional Cooper-pair box in the transmon regime. I will show results of two recent works of our research group. In the first work\, we study the non-equilibrium dynamics observed after connecting two XXZ chains\, one initially prepared in the ferromagnetic phase and the other in the paramagnetic phase. When analyzing the magnetization and the entanglement entropy as a function of time and the chain site\, we observe an effective light cone. In other words\, there is a limit in the speed with which information propagates\, which I will show to be related to different excitations of the equilibrium case. In the second work\, we couple magnetic reservoirs to the edges of a spin chain in which the spin coupling in the z-direction varies gradually along the chain. We analyze the spin and energy currents through the chain when the non-equilibrium steady state is reached. According to our results\, it is possible to manipulate the behavior of the energy current by applying an external magnetic field that also varies along the chain. We show that the combined action of short-range non-magnetic impurities located near the edges and onsite electron-electron interactions effectively creates non-collinear magnetic scatterers\, and\, hence\, results in strong back-scattering. The mechanism causes deviations from quantization even at zero temperature and for a modest strength of electron-electron interactions. Our theory provides a straightforward conceptual framework to explain experimental results\, especially those in atomically-thin crystals\, plagued with short-range edge disorder. Following an introduction\, we highlight two ways to characterise the electronic degree of freedom\, either by the canonical fermion algebra or by the graded Lie algebra su(2|2). The first underlies Landau’s Fermi liquid description of correlated matter\, and we identify an alternative Fermi liquid regime governed by the latter. We exploit the su(2|2) algebra to derive a systematic expansion of the electronic correlations\, and describe the resulting leading approximations to electronic spectral function. These reveal a splitting in two of the electronic band\, a violation of the Luttinger sum rule\, and a Mott metal-insulator transition. We conclude by describing how local spin moments are readily incorporated\, offering a fresh perspective on partial Kondo screening and heavy fermion behaviour. If the potential barrier between the sections is high\, a quantum dot is formed in the normal section. For harmonic (hard-wall) confinement\, the effective g-factor of all quantum dot levels is suppressed exponentially (power law) in the product of the spin-orbit interaction wave vector and the quantum dot length. If the barrier between the two sections is removed\, the g-factor of the emerging Andreev bound states saturates to a universal constant. Remarkably\, the effective g-factor shows a pronounced peak at the spin-orbit energy as function of the chemical potentials. This provides a powerful tool to determine experimentally whether the spin-orbit interaction in the whole nanowire is uniform and\, moreover\, gives direct access to the spin-orbit interaction strengths of the nanowire via g-factor measurements. Next\, I will discuss a similar setup at large magnetic fields [2]. Even if there is no topological superconducting phase possible\, there is a trivial Andreev bound state that becomes pinned exponentially close to zero energy as a function of magnetic field strength when the length of the quantum dot is tuned with respect to its spin-orbit length such that a resonance condition of Fabry-Perot type is satisfied. In this case\, the Andreev bound state remains pinned near zero energy for Zeeman energies that exceed the characteristic spacing between Andreev bound state levels but that are smaller than the spin-orbit energy of the quantum dot. To support the analytical model\, a numerical simulation of a hybrid system while explicitly incorporating a thin superconducting layer was performed\, showing that all qualitative features of the analytical model are also present in the numerical results. In recent years\, several exotic phenomena including super-conductivity [1]\, Rashba spin-orbit coupling [2]\, ferromagnetism and quantum oscillations [3] have been reported at this interface. While the theoretical calculations for band structure reveal the formation of several subbands (dxy\, dxz and dyz) arising from the interface crystal field splitting of Ti:3d t2g orbital\, no clear consensus has been reached yet from experimental evidences. Here\, I investigate the quantum transport of a high mobility 2DEG at LAO/STO interface under high magnetic field (55T). Surprisingly\, the Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations (SdHO) of the longitudinal resistance (Rxx) are aperiodic when plotted as a function of inverse magnetic field. This observation\, at the origin of a non-linear Landau fan diagram\, contrasts with a linear Hall resistance (Rxy) over the full magnetic field range. In this seminar\, I will explore different scenarios to explain the peculiar transport properties of such 2DEG at LAO/STO interface. In particular\, I will show that the Roth-Gao-Niu model [4]\, where the phase of the magnetic oscillations depends both on energy and magnetic field\, provides a natural explanation of the experimental results. One of them are discontinuous phase transition from superconducting to normal state in low temperature\, characteristic of the materials in which we can expect the existence of a Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) phase [1]. In this seminar we discuss possibility of the realization of this exotic phase in multi-bands iron-based superconductors [2]. Moreover\, it will be demonstrated that such FFLO instability may be explored through the static Cooper pair susceptibility renormalized by pairing interaction. We will present an efficient method of its evaluation using Wannier orbitals derived from ab initio (DFT) calculation. We will discuss applications of these techniques to the heavy fermion compound CeCoIn5 and to iron based superconductors FeSe [3]. A rapid collapse of the Mott gap upon doping is found\, and the electronic structure displays a strong momentum-space differentiation at low doping level : The Fermi surface consists of pockets centered around (π/2\,π/2)\, while a pseudogap opens near (π\,0). The pseudogap closes upon increasing doping\, but a differentiated regime characterized by a modulation of the spectral intensity along the Fermi surface persists to higher doping levels. These results\, obtained within the cellular dynamical mean-field-theory framework\, are discussed in comparison to recent photoemission experiments [2\,3\,4] and an overall good agreement is found. In the first (N=0) Landau level (LL)\, the short range attractive part of Coulomb interaction is known to be responsible for the condensation of quasiparticles into an incompressible Laughlin liquid hosting a fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) [1] and carrying fractional charges. In higher LLs (N > 2)\, however\, the situation is markedly different as the combination of short-range attractive with long- range repulsive Coulomb interaction leads to electronic phases forming charge density waves (CDWs) [2\,3]. In this work\, CDWs were investigated in the second and third Landau levels using non-linear electronic transport as well as noise measurements in a Corbino geometry. Unlike traditional geometries such as Hall or Van der Paw geometries\, the Corbino geometry offers a direct access to the bulk conductivity without any contributions from edge channels [4]. The concomitant mapping of the conductivity versus bias voltage and magnetic field revealed different types of CDWs\, such as pinned CDW phases and/or co-existing liquid crystal-like stripe phases. At particular filling fractions both in the second and third Landau levels\, narrow band noise reveals The sliding transport characteristics under DC bias voltage. This is the typical signature of liquid-crystal like CDWs. of pinned CDWs is revealed by narrow band noise at particular filling fractions in both the second and third Landau levels. In particular\, Tthese results shed new light on the elusive re-entrant quantum Hall states in the second Landau level Landau level\, and they show that these are most likely liquid-crystal like CDWs that can coexist with the FQHE [5]. We review the field and we propose an electronic band theory that highlights the link between topology and local chemical bonding\, and combines this with the conventional band theory of electrons. Topological Quantum Chemistry is a description of the universal global properties of all possible band structures and materials\, comprised of a graph theoretical description of momentum space and a dual group theoretical description in real space. We classify the possible band structures for all 230 crystal symmetry groups that arise from local atomic orbitals\, and show which are topologically nontrivial. We show how our topological band theory sheds new light on known TIs\, and demonstrate the power of our method to predict a plethora of new TIs and on the newly discovered Higher-Order Topological Insulators in Bi. In electronic band structure of solid state material\, two band touching points with linear dispersion (called as `Weyl node') appear in pair in the momentum space. When they annihilate with each other\, the system undergoes a quantum phase transition from Weyl semimetal (WSM) phase to a band insulator (BI) phase. The continuous phase transition is recently discovered in solid state materials [3]. The phase transition is described by a critical theory with a `magnetic dipole' like object in the momentum space. I will argue that the critical theory hosts a new disorder-driven quantum multicritical phenomena. Based on the renormalization group argument\, we clarify transport scaling properties around the Weyl node around the quantum multicritical point as well as the direct phase line between BI and WSM phases [1\,2]. In the second part of my talk\, I will argue that three-dimensional topological excitonic insulator is realized in graphite under high magnetic field [4\,5]. Graphite under high magnetic field exhibits consecutive metal-insulator (MI) transitions as well as re-entrant insulator-metal (IM) transition at low temperature. A part of the experiment was discovered more than 30 years ago\, while the identities of the low-temperature insulating phases are still unclear by now. We identify these enigmatic insulator phases with excitonic insulator phases\, where electron and hole pocket(s) form spin-triplet excitonic pairings. We show that the re-entrant IM transition in the graphite experiment can be naturally explained by an enhanced quantum spin fluctuation in the presence of smaller electron and hole pocket(s). We further argue that the odd-parity spin-triplet excitonic pairing reconstructs chiral surface Fermi arc state of electron and that of hole into a 2+1 massless surface Dirac fermion (topological excitonic insulator) [4\,5]. The lowest in energy bulk states of such a nanowire have a spin polarization parallel or antiparallel to the applied magnetic field in the topological or trivial phase. We show that this property can be probed by the quantum dot created at the end of the nanowire by external gates. By tuning one of the two spin-split levels of the quantum dot to be in resonance with nanowire bulk states\, one can detect the spin polarization of the lowest band via transport measurement. Thus\, this allows us to determine the topological phase of the Rashba nanowire independently of the presence of the zero-energy Majorana bound states. Our work opens an entirely new path for experimental approaches to detect topological superconductivity. Our results demonstrate the feasibility of such measurements in realistic setups and thus provide a strong incentive for experimental implementations for many labs worldwide. Such experiments would be highly welcome by the community as they can provide independent support of topological phases\, and in this way help to resolve the controversy surrounding the interpretation of zero-bias peaks as Majorana bound states. My talk will be focus on the link betwen superconductivity and theAutomatic word wrap pseudogap\, its origin remains mysterious. I will report our recent progress to grow single crystals of HgBa2Ca2Cu3O8 (Hg-1223) cuprate with a new self-ux growth technique. The crystals thus synthesized are submilimetric\, slightly underdoped and show high surface quality for spectroscopic measurements. Magnetometry and X-Ray diffraction have been performed. We show for the first time that with adequate heat treatment\, we can largely underdope the Hg-1223 compound and control its doping level [2]. Our raman spectroscopy study of a slightly underdoped single crystal of Hg-1223 allowed us to observe that the superconducting pair-breaking peak is associated with a dip on its higher-energy side\, disappearing together at T c . This result reveals a key aspect of the unconventional pairing mechanism : spectral weight lost in the dip is transferred to the pair-breaking peak at lower energies. This conclusion is supported by cellular dynamical mean-field theory on the Hubbard model\, which is able to reproduce all the main features of the Raman response and explain the peak-dip behavior in terms of a nontrivial relationship between the superconducting and the pseudogap [3]. We confirmed this result on others compounds revealing his universality. We tracked this structure with doping on Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 [4]. The pseudogap survives in the overdoped region and then disappears above p 0.225\, which corresponds to the normal state disappearance of the pseudogap in coincidence with a Lifshitz transition. This suggests a vertical ending line of the pseudogap in the T-p phase diagram. We show that depending on radii of nanowires and magnetic field amplitudes there exist two different regimes. In the strong magnetic field regime (magnetic length much smaller than the radius of the nanowire)\, Landau level spectrum resembles that of a bulk Weyl semimetal\, and thus we obtain a conductance plateau for low chemical potentials due to the presence of the 0th chiral Landau level. On the contrary\, in the weak magnetic field regime (magnetic length much larger than the radius of the nanowire)\, the 0th LL is not chiral any more\, and therefore the conductance plateau at low chemical potentials disappears. We argue that both regimes are relevant for the ongoing experiments. In these systems\, the Fe atom is invariably associated to pnictogen (As\, P) or chalcogen (Se\, S\, Te) elements\, with the only and intensively debated exception of YFe2Ge2 [2\,3]. This circumstance raises the important fundamental question about the link between Fe-based superconductivity and the apparent need of these pnictogens and chalcogens [3]. At the same time\, to escape from such harmful and/or comparatively scarce As- or Se-like elements is highly desirable for applications. In the talk I will introduce the new material LaFeSiH\, which is first silicide that surpasses traditional pnictide and chalcogenide compounds as Fe-based superconductors\, and discuss some of its physical properties [4]. For practical applications\, however\, semiconductors face certain unavoidable limitations imposed by the physics of Anderson localization and by the disorder introduced through doping. In this talk I discuss whether these same limitations apply to nodal semimetals\, which are a novel class of three-dimensional materials that have a vanishing density of states (like insulators) but no gap to electron-hole excitations (like conductors). I show that\, surprisingly\, in a certain class of nodal semimetals the electronic mobility can far exceed the bounds that constrain doped semiconductors\, becoming divergingly large even with a finite concentration of charged impurities. I then discuss the thermoelectric effect in semimetals\, and show that their electron-hole symmetry allows for a thermopower that grows without bound under the application of a strong magnetic field. This large thermopower apparently enables the development of devices with record-large thermoelectric figure of merit. I will first review Peierls' answer involving the Peierls' substitution and leading to well-known semiclassical equations of motion (cf. Ashcroft-Mermin). Then I will argue that\, although this answer leads to many successes\, it is too naive as it only involves the band energy spectrum but completely forgets the corresponding eigenvectors. Eventually\, I will turn to the modern understanding – which goes back to Thouless\, Berry and Haldane – of the existence of a geometric structure hidden within band theory (namely a Berry phase and a quantum metric). This will allow us to derive a modified effective single-band Hamiltonian. The corresponding semiclassical equations of motion (cf. Qian Niu and collaborators) include extra terms such as the Karplus-Luttinger anomalous velocity and the orbital magnetic moment. If time permits\, I will end by showing how the quantum Hall effect appears in hindsight as electric transport in a peculiar band insulator in zero external magnetic field.
