Andres CANO, Nickelate superconductors: infinite-layer materials and beyond

The recent discovery of unconventional superconductivity in the infinite-layer rare-earth nickelates RNiO2 has sparked a renewed interest in these systems [1,2]. The electronic properties of these systems display interesting analogies with the high-Tc cuprates and, at the same time, intriguing differences that deserve close attention. In this seminar I will provide a brief overview of the state-of-the-art and present some recent related to the ab inito description of correlations in these nickelates [3], distinct interfacial effects [4], and prospective materials [5].
