Recent experiments on transport in one-dimensional constrictions [1,2] revealed that fine tuning of the conducting channel leads to plateaus corresponding to various fractions of the conductance quantum.
I will discuss recent theoretical models suggested for the explanation of these observations and speculate on what fractions can be expected in general within the Luttinger model approach.
