Impurities in Dirac and Weyl systems have been studied extensively throughout the last decade. While generally considered a nuisance, impurities turn out to also be useful: they can serve as “sensor” to detect the electronic structure of the underlying state or even be used to engineer states with topological properties.
I will discuss an unusual form of a Kondo effect in Dirac/Weyl systems as well as the impurity engineering of a Chern insulator and a one dimensional AIII insulator.
