Three paintings by Rainier Lericolais on loan to the LPS from FDAC 91

The Laboratoire de Physique des Solides welcomes three works by Rainier Lericolais on loan from the Fonds départemental d’art contemporain de l’Essonne (FDAC).

The Blandin amphitheatre of the Laboratoire de Physique des Solides now features three portraits of musicians or singers of diverse and famous talents: Jacqueline Dupré, Johnny Cash and Anita Lane. Rainier Lericolais, a painter, sculptor and musician adept at sampling, who has collaborated with Stéphane Eicher, created the paintings. Some of his works have been acquired by the Musée national d’Art moderne (MNAM) at the Centre Pompidou. These 3 works are ink washes on paper, i.e. depictions. Rainier Lericolais took magazine photos of the 3 artists and moistened them with a brush, so that their figures were altered and modified. This is what creates the singular mystery of these works of art, whose initial support are enlarged, photocopied photos, with the liquid running over the ink to create a watercolor or washed-out effect.

On Thursday June 15, 2023, the loan of these 3 paintings was inaugurated, on the initiative of Valorisation du patrimoine culturel, the 1st of FDAC 91, in the presence of Senator Laure Darcos, Patrick Duvaut, Vice-President of Université Paris-Saclay in charge of Fondation Paris-Saclay Université, Pascale Foury-Leylekian, Director of the Laboratoire de Physique des Solides (LPS – Univ Paris-Saclay/CNRS), Gilles Rion, Director of FDAC 91, Aurélie Derégel, Director of Culture for the Conseil départemental de l’Essonne and artist Rainier Lericolais (cf. photo below).
